Bids drop as more construction firms seek out public works

Prices have dropped on road projects across the country as more construction firms seek out work in the public sector due to the stalled economy. Cities that would receive two or three bids on a project in the past now field offers from 20 or more firms. The Florida Department of Transportation saved $30 million on a road-widening project when bidders competed.
