France, U.S. make diplomatic stops in former pariah states

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are making official visits to Syria and Libya, respectively. France will ask Syria to use its ties with Iran to try to curb its antagonism toward Western nations like Israel and the U.S. Libya and the U.S. are working out details on a bilateral trade and investment deal.
