Commercial real estate gets big boost from new REITs, funds

Exceptionally well-capitalized institutional investors are moving decisively into commercial property, lured by historically low prices offered on cream-of-the-crop properties that are keeping their tenants and generating positive cash flow. The return of institutions and other major investors to the commercial real estate sector promises to bring new life to the $20 million-plus part of the market, which practically shut down with the arrival of the recession in the U.S. Inland Real Estate is so optimistic about the likely broad-based recovery that it is working on a $5 billion IPO for its latest REIT, Inland Diversified Real Estate Trust.
