DEP inspectors: No black marks for Pa. coal ash impoundments

Pennsylvania's 42 coal ash slurry and waste impoundments received a clean bill of health Thursday from state Department of Environmental Protection inspectors. There were no major structural problems and only a few common maintenance issues, said DEP Secretary John Hanger. The state launched the inspections to head off a dam collapse like the one that flooded homes and fouled waterways and farmland in Tennessee last December.
