New York laws aim to strengthen construction safety

Four bills signed this week by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are aimed at improving oversight at construction and demolition sites. The laws, drafted in response to a fatal fire at the former Deutsche Bank, also boost safety requirements for sprinklers and standpipes. "Construction work has inherent risks, but these bills will mitigate those risks and better protect emergency responders, workers and the public," Bloomberg said.
