Statins can lower postsurgery heart attack risk

A study found patients scheduled for surgery to unclog their arteries were half as likely to die of a heart attack if they took statins for a month before and after their procedures. The study, which included about 500 patients, also showed other indications of heart damage were reduced among those who had taken the statin medication.
