Felmy: Pa. Marcellus Shale tax will hurt industry, state

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell's proposed tax on natural gas production in the Marcellus Shale will only keep industry investment away, resulting in fewer jobs for the state, according to American Petroleum Institute Chief Economist John Felmy. "Nearly 270,000 Pennsylvania jobs are supported by the oil and natural gas industry and more than $25 billion was pumped into the state's economy in 2007, according to a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers," Felmy writes.
