Nearby counties have common culture but different obesity rates

State data show 25% of York County residents are obese, compared with 18% in Chester County, even though the two are only 30 miles apart. Both have similar agricultural cultures and plentiful farmers markets, but Chester County's Health Department geared up its anti-obesity programs in recent years, and residents there have higher income and education levels that factor into diet and exercise choices.
