Treasury pilot program will offer financial accounts to unbanked taxpayers

The Treasury Department announced Thursday that it is launching a pilot program in 2011 that will offer financial accounts with debit card access to allow taxpayers to receive direct deposits of their tax refunds. The program is designed to give taxpayers with no bank accounts an alternative to check-cashing services and refund anticipation loans.
