Calif. bill would provide greater "do not track" disclosure

California's legislature is making progress on a bill that would require online sites and services that collect consumers' personal data to reveal how they acknowledge "do not track" signals from Web browsers. The bill doesn't provide a way for consumers to prevent tracking but rather "is a disclosure requirement. An operator would only be in violation if they failed to post practices in their privacy policy," said Alan Friel, a partner with Edwards Wildman Palmer.
