New rail safety initiatives from the Obama administration could lead to rift between shippers of hazardous materials and freight operators in determining accountability for rail accidents, according to this analysis. "I find it really ironic that you have operating systems, braking systems, all of the other rail systems involved, and regulators are scrutinizing hydraulic fracturing fluid without providing data to support the move," said a source from the oil industry. "Why are they going to fracking fluid? It's like blaming a car accident on the fact that there were groceries in the trunk," the source added.
