Washington state to monitor bridge activity with GPS

The Washington State Department of Transportation is among agencies taking action to better secure roads and bridges following the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis. The agency plans to begin using a global positioning system to monitor the Mercer Slough interchange near Seattle, which carries multiple bridges. The technology, from Leica Geosystems, will help measure deflections in real time.
