Carriers post improved on-time, baggage, cancellation numbers

The Transportation Department reported that 19 U.S. airlines boosted their on-time arrival rate to 75.7% in July, up nearly six percentage points from the June figures. Domestic flight cancellations fell to 1.7%, and mishandled baggage rates dropped sharply. Regional and discount carriers fared best in the on-time rankings, led by Pinnacle Airlines at 85.6%. Northwest Airlines was the top-ranked legacy carrier, placing seventh overall at 79.5%.
