Energy industry hails SEC's plan to overhaul rules

The Securities and Exchange Commission is considering revamping its reporting rules for oil and gas reserves, saying current rules are outdated. Under the SEC's plan, companies would be allowed to book reserves from "unconventional" sources. The energy industry encouraged the changes, which are expected to increase proven reserves of oil and natural gas companies, boost their shares and possibly lead to consolidation in the industry.
