Report: Strategies will keep sewage out of Ontario waterways

Green roofs, downspout disconnections that channel stormwater into rain barrels, permeable pavements and biotention areas are among the strategies recommended by Ecojustice Canada for keeping sewage out of Ontario waterways. The report proposed ways to limit rainwater runoff, which has overtaxed the province's combined stormwater and sanitary sewers, causing them to overflow into the Ottawa River and contaminate beaches.
