Daily Economic Indicator: U.S. employment report was shocking

The U.S. Labor Department's report that nonfarm payrolls were unchanged in August came as a shock, according to The Economist. "There are few signs of any impetus to growth anywhere," an Economist Free Exchange blogger writes. "Global conditions are deteriorating, as shown by the poor performance of purchasing manager surveys worldwide. This will put more focus on both fiscal and monetary policy."
