Amazon reportedly will cut tablet prices with ad-based model

Amazon is expected to take aim at the budget end of the tablet market with an advertiser-supported version of its Kindle Fire line that it will unveil Thursday, probably at a lower cost than its rivals, according to The Wall Street Journal. Sony, however, wants no part of a price war and will price the Xperia device that it will launch Friday at $399 for 16 gigabytes. Hewlett-Packard and Dell said at an industry event last week that they would return to the tablet market with Windows 8 models, but they offered no indication on pricing.
