Expert: Telematics may not be a good fit for all midsize insurers

The auto insurance market is increasingly competitive, pushing some midsize insurers to consider new programs such as telematics to attract customers, writes Roger Burkhardt of EagleEye Analytics. Telematics may not suit insurance companies of every size and business strategy, however, so insurers also should consider predictive analytics and other options for "new technology and other solutions to more accurately price their risks," Burkhardt writes. "These carriers are leveling the playing field with large carriers that rely on discounts to attract the best risks."
