Apple iOS 7 micro-location capabilities hold opportunities for marketers

Apple's new iPhone operating system will include micro-location capabilities through a system called iBeacons that uses the Bluetooth Low Energy profile. The iBeacons work as signal and sensor and is likely to be attractive to advertisers looking to create precise geofences in indoor areas such as a mall where GPS and Wi-Fi triangulation are less accurate. Such technology means a smartphone user might walk across the threshold of a store and see an offer appear on the lock screen, Anthony Wing Kosner writes.
