DING-ed but not dented: Shielding income from state taxes

States are raising taxes to increase revenue, and advisers can assist clients by recommending state tax shelters such as Delaware Incomplete Gift Non-Grantor trusts, or DINGs. These vehicles, named after the state where they were made popular, are offered in other states also and work by shielding assets in states that don't tax resident grantors for trust income.
