Economist: Failure to expand Medicaid could hurt rural residents

More than half of rural residents who could be covered by expanded Medicaid programs live in states that have decided not to increase eligibility in their programs, said health economist Tim McBride. He said hospitals will also be affected by these state decisions because savings from lower reimbursement rates are used to pay for the Medicaid expansion.
