Guidelines aim to help home-building crews handle materials safely

Practices intended to help residential construction crew members avoid soft-tissue injuries from manual handling of materials are outlined in a new booklet from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The booklet recommends the use of mechanical lifting equipment when possible, and it advises that workers should not carry materials heavier than 50 pounds by themselves.
