Microsoft makes the right purchase -- 4 years late

Microsoft's Nokia buy allows it to create handsets to go with its mobile operating system, opening the door to the lucrative full-service mobile business model that's served Apple so well. That's a smart strategy, writes Dan Frommer, but it would have been smarter to have made this move earlier, perhaps by snapping up BlackBerry a few years ago. "This is ... the most important transformation in the history of computing, and the biggest software company in the world has missed the boat so far," he writes.
