Rx prices higher when dispensed by docs, studies find

The cost of workers' compensation prescriptions in Pennsylvania and Maryland was higher when dispensed by physicians than by pharmacies, according to studies by the Workers Compensation Research Institute. "In many states across the country, policymakers are debating whether doctors should be paid significantly more than pharmacies for dispensing the same drug," the WCRI's Richard Victor said. "One question for policymakers is whether the large price difference paid when physicians dispense is justified by the benefits of physician dispensing."
