Some call for end to farmer subsidies in rich countries

Arguing their farmers can never compete against those in wealthy countries who receive substantial government subsidies, some trade ministers plan to call for preferential treatment for farmers in developing countries when 146 trade ministers meet for the WTO meeting next week in Cancun, Mexico. They argue that without some form of preferential treatment, they cannot compete in a global market.
