Construction, manufacturing growth each on decline

Manufacturing growth in the U.S. slowed in August after July saw a sharp drop in construction spending, according to two new reports. The Institute for Supply Management indicated that the manufacturing index dropped from 54.7 in July to 54.5 in August, and the Commerce Department reported that construction spending dropped in July by 1.2% -- the largest decline since 2001.
