New construction starts 7% more than last year's numbers

New construction starts were up 7% in the first half of the year, compared to the same period last year, according to McGraw-Hill Construction. There were year-to-year gains of 17% in nonresidential buildings and an increase of 13% in nonbuilding construction, but homebuilding slowed to a 1% annual increase.
