U.S. retailers demand "green" packaging in earth-friendly push

Wal-Mart is one of the many U.S. retailers that is pressuring packaging companies to develop more earth-friendly packaging, a trend that could affect everything from transportation costs to how much product is stocked on store shelves. Target Corp., meanwhile, has teamed up with Metabolix to create a new gift card out of bio-based plastic, and Dow Chemical is hoping to be able to manufacture polyethylene out of sugar cane.
