El-Erian to succeed Thompson as Pimco CEO:

Pacific Investment Management CEO Bill Thompson will retire at the end of this year, leaving co-CEO Mohamed El-Erian alone to take over the reins. During a break from Pimco, El-Erian worked for Harvard University to oversee its endowment, the largest in the world. He returned to Pimco in January and is known for a keen ability to spot global investment trends; under his guidance, the Harvard endowment gained about $5.7 billion in value.
