Armenia signs trade deal with Russia rather than EU

EU officials were stunned by Russia's announcement that Armenia had joined a customs union with Moscow, rather than negotiate a free trade agreement with the EU. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's decision was seen as a key victory by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his campaign to put together the Eurasian Union, made up of former Soviet states.
