CFPB: Lenders, debt collectors must improve responses to credit-reporting errors

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau warned financial firms and debt collectors Wednesday that they must get better at responding to credit-reporting errors or face enforcement action and compensate those affected. The agency says lenders must be more scrupulous in examining documents submitted by consumers and must report any mistakes to credit-reporting agencies.
