Literacy program would teach Calif. fourth-grade students to write plays

A member of the Rotary Club of Laguna Sunrise is spearheading a fundraising campaign to bring a theater-literacy program to fourth-grade students in Elk Grove, Calif. The campaign is an effort by the Rotary and the actors and playwrights in Sacramento's B Street Theater, which would help teach students about acting, how to create their own characters and write plays. "Some of my students who struggle the most to stay focused and on task were some of the stars of the day," said Elisa Yi, a fifth-grade teacher in another district that has used the theater-literacy program.
