Regulators continue to struggle with money-fund rules

Since the global financial crisis, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory agencies have been striving to develop rules to make money market mutual funds safer. However, SEC commissioners, other policymakers and market participants differ on how to go about improving the safety of the sector. "Nothing has fundamentally changed to address the structural weaknesses of money funds," said Sheila Bair, head of the Systemic Risk Council.
