Some companies see opportunity in nuclear plant decommissioning

EnergySolutions and Waste Control Specialists stand to benefit from the shutdown of several nuclear reactors, including Entergy's Vermont Yankee facility, observers say. Both companies dispose of low-level radioactive waste from such facilities, including plant components and building materials. "It really does open the door to the marketplace rethinking ways to handle decommissioning," said Ralph Andersen, senior director of radiation safety and environmental protection at the Nuclear Energy Institute.
