Syrian strike approved in close Senate panel vote

A measure giving the president authorization for action in Syria passed 10 to 7 in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a close vote which cast some doubt on whether the bill will be able to pass the full Senate. An amendment sponsored by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Chris Coons, D-Del., and inserted into the bill calls for a U.S. strike to "degrade the capabilities of the Assad regime to use weapons of mass destruction."
