San Francisco Bay Bridge section replaced over Labor Day weekend

Contractor C.C. Myers Inc. worked over Labor Day weekend to lift a 6,500-ton slab of roadway connecting the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to Yerba Buena Island. The $40 million total project involved installation of a more seismically safe replacement and represented the first time a fully constructed bridge deck had been lifted into place in California.
