Salazar raises concerns about allowing Arctic drilling

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said his department will decide in the coming months whether to permit Royal Dutch Shell to explore five wells next year in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas in Alaska. Speaking at a conference in Anchorage, Alaska, Salazar said officials still have doubts about the safety of drilling in the Arctic as well as spill-prevention and response capabilities. "Until we have answered several questions, no drilling will be allowed in the area," he said.
