Social environment helps mice turn white fats into brown fats

Exposure to an "enriched" environment, with plenty of room to play and other companions, helped mice convert harmful white fats to calorie-burning brown fats, experts reported in Cell Metabolism. Mice in the enriched environment also lost 50% more abdominal fat, gained 29% less weight and had increases in their body temperature compared with the control mice, researchers said.
