Study: "Duodenal switch" procedure drops more weight, adds more risk

Data on 60 severely obese participants found that those who underwent the "duodenal switch" procedure lost 50 more pounds on average over two years compared with those who had gastric bypass surgery. However, duodenal-switch patients had nearly double the number of complications, including vomiting, diarrhea and intestinal obstruction, according to the study in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
