Sears, Kmart expand free layaway

Sears and Kmart stores have dropped all fees on their layaway programs and expanded the year-round program to cover every item in almost all of its stores. The announcement came after Toys R Us said it would eliminate fees on layaway and Wal-Mart dropped its $15 upfront fee to $5, which shoppers get back as a gift card when they complete the purchase.
