TV makers ally to fight off smartphone threat

Television set manufacturers are joining forces to make sure that viewers turn to them, rather than smartphones and tablets, for in-home entertainment. Toshiba, LG Electronics and Philips Electronics have formed a partnership aimed at developing a common Internet-based platform for providing video, audio and gaming content through TVs. Members of the Smart TV Alliance want to enable developers to write a single piece of software to run on all their sets.
