DOL report shows DB assets up and DC assets slightly lower

The Department of Labor’s Employee Benefit Security Administration said that overall private pension plans increased their assets in 2011, but the trends for defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans went in opposite directions. Assets of defined benefit plans rose 2.8% to $2.52 trillion. Defined contribution plan assets declined 0.1% to $3.83 trillion.
