EMC ups the ante with new cloud storage platform

EMC took a step closer to challenging Amazon for a dominant position in the cloud storage market with the release of its Project Nile platform, scheduled for commercial availability in early 2014. "Project Nile will give IT departments or service providers the ability to deliver easily consumable storage services, similar to those offered by the Web-scale public cloud providers, but with the control security and reliability of a private cloud," said Amitabh Srivastam, president of EMC's Advanced Software Division.
