Gulf spill estimates of BP, feds differ as hearing nears

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier was presented opposing oil spill estimates from the 2010 Macondo incident in the Gulf of Mexico. BP requested that Barbier use an estimate of 2.45 million barrels in establishing spill figures and computing Clean Water Act penalties. Experts from the Department of Justice, meanwhile, want to use about 4.2 million barrels for determining fines.
