California governor vetoes gay teaching bill

Arguing that existing laws protect against discrimination, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday vetoed a bill that would have barred instruction and textbooks that "reflected adversely" on people based on sexual orientation. The measure he rejected was a watered-down version of legislation that originally required textbooks to include the political and cultural contributions of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
