Fed governor pushes for swift interest-rate cuts

Federal Reserve Governor Frederic S. Mishkin has suggested that quick moves to cut interest rates by the central bank could help limit damage from a severe housing slump. Mishkin, a noted economist and close friend of Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, suggested the policy in a paper presented at an annual Fed symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyo., on Sept. 1.
