CMS pushes to set up ACO sites to test global payments

CMS chief Dr. Donald Berwick is quickly moving to set up 100 to 300 sites across the U.S. that will create accountable care organizations and test the concept of global payments for providers instead of fee-for-service. Berwick is using an innovation center created by the health reform law that has $10 billion to spend over 10 years on ways to improve quality of care and reduce costs.
