Dental sealants expose children to BPA, study finds

Millions of children are exposed to derivatives of the chemical BPA from dental sealants, according to a study in Pediatrics. Researchers found the derivatives metabolize to become actual BPA when exposed to saliva, and the exposure lasts for up to three hours after the sealant is applied. But some experts say the benefits of using the sealants to prevent tooth decay outweigh the chemical's health risks.
