Green building soars into the mainstream

Green construction now accounts for almost a third of all new U.S. building projects, up from just 2% in 2005. The sector's explosive growth is largely due to the efforts of the Green Building Council, experts say. "They created a cachet around the LEED certification," says one green-building manager. "I think that was really a stroke of genius."
