Industry groups advance offshore-drilling safety recommendations

The American Petroleum Institute and the National Ocean Industries Association unveiled more than 50 recommendations to avert future oil spills and improve response capabilities. The proposals to the Department of the Interior were part of an effort to enhance safety practices following the Gulf of Mexico spill. "Safety is our first responsibility, both to the millions of men and women who work in America's oil and gas industry, and to the public that depends on the energy they produce," said Erik Milito, API's upstream director.
